Affordable Art Fair Bristol

April 27, 2013

Straight up on the train and into the Art Fair. It was fantastic and I spent a very happy 5 hours there immersed in extraordinary and wonderful paintings. The gallery owners were delightful and I had many interesting conversations. I had enjoyed my first art fair at Islington earlier this year, but the Bristol one was even more to my liking. I guess because there were lovely West Country scenes, more realism and less of the abstract. A great atmosphere […]

Networking: the good, the bad and the ugly

March 21, 2013

As an Artist, networking has been an essential part of my development. For myself I have used 3 different types of networking. 1.Artists and Galleries 2.Business Forums 3. Social media (facebook, twitter, blogging, linkedin google+ etc) Finding out who can help, who has social media skills to offer, website designers, twitter experts, linkedin connections, facebook fun, all of this takes time so when I’m not in my studio I’m at my laptop! When I changed tack in my career from […]

Art Show for Comic Relief

March 21, 2013

With an art show, coffee and cupcakes we raised  £237 for Comic Relief on Red Nose Day at the Old School Cafe in Tiverton. It was a really busy morning with red noses to the fore. I was giving away postcards and bookmarks and visitors generously gave donations to this worth cause. In the afternoon the heavens opened and the cafe was much quieter but hey, people enjoyed Sarah-Jane’s cupcakes, bought my cards and saw my mini solo exhibition of […]

Exe Valley Artists

March 6, 2013

We had a great meeting today and were joined by our newest member Joey Weber who bought lots of ideas to the table. We discussed how we could create our own pop-up gallery. I have already booked a space for us to share for the whole of September. This will coincide with Devon Open Studios which some of us are doing so we can direct people to our various studios dotted around the Exe Valley between Bampton and Bickleigh. It […]

Networking

February 25, 2013

Painting away in a studio all day can absorb me for hours, but it can be a rather solitary existance. It is great to meet up with fellow artists and exchange ideas from time to time. A group of us have formed the Exe Valley Artists and we meet at Bickleigh Mill over coffee, cake or hot soup. We discuss a number of ideas, group exhibitions, Devon Open Studios and such like. It’s great to share ideas, talk about art and […]

London Art Fair

January 24, 2013

This was a first for me. I went to check out the London Art Scene at the Design Centre, the Islington Art Fair. Having applied, I was offered a free ticket by Axis Web and also the Millennium Gallery in St.Ives. Although the tickets are for 2 people, I went on my own and managed to catch a train out of Devon despite the huge amount of snow! It was a fascinating experience. The gallery owners all keen to attract […]

Glos Gallery Exeter Painting Heatherbell Barlow Tide out MouseholeEnlarge

January and I am full of resolutions to build on my relationship with galleries. Last year was really busy with 18 exhibitions under my belt. I have met so many wonderful artists in Devon and being part of various organisations like Devon Artist Network, Tiverton Art Society and North Devon Arts has afforded me opportunities I would never otherwise have found. All these networks are run by wonderful volunteers who give their time so freely. I am full of admiration […]

  • About Heatherbell

I am inspired by beautiful landscape. I love Devon, where I live, but it was on the Isles of Scilly, I found the smallest gap between Heaven and Earth: These lovely unspoilt islands have defined me as an Artist, painting colourful and thoughtful landscapes, transforming changing skies and shifting tides on to canvas. It is here I try to unravel my relationship with nature and capture the essence of a special place. If you have a special place you would like painted, or if you would like to buy an existing painting or a signed mounted print, please contact me I'd love to hear from you.
