About Heatherbell

A painting can transport you to another place; an original and special gift for all occasions.

Just as portraits are commissioned for special or famous people, your favourite landscape, seascape or garden can be transformed into a lovely painting to be enjoyed in your home or work place.

I am inspired by nature and beautiful landscape;  I want to capture that special place on canvas to be enjoyed on your wall or mine.
I grew up in Dorset and moved to Devon in 1984, From here I discovered the Isles of Scilly, where I found the smallest gap between Heaven and Earth, a place that has defined me as an artist and a desire to paint and record such wild beauty.
These lovely unspoilt islands have been my early inspiration to transform ever changing skies and shifting tides on to canvas. It is here I try to unravel my relationship with nature and capture
the essence of a special place. My sketchbook on Scilly now resides in the Brooklyn Art Library in New York.

We all have favourite places and transforming one into a painting, perhaps from a holiday, a Honeymoon, a garden or even a local view, means that a painting on your wall can be a constant reminder of that special time or place. If you have one of those you would like painted, you might like to look at my commissions page. Why not chat about what you have mind!

More About the Artist:
Heatherbell Barlow studied Fine Art  and Education at Exeter University. She was Head of Art at Commonweal School in Swindon and taught art, ceramics and art history at Bryanston in Dorset and at Blundell’s School in Devon she ran a Girls’ Boarding House whilst bringing up her family. She now lives in a converted mill on the River Lowman in Devon. U.K.

My passion for painting developed whilst designing stage sets for Plays and Musicals. I was creating the backdrop for South Pacific  when that ‘light bulb’ moment came: my overwhelming desire to paint full time has been a reality since 2010. Launching my career as a professional artist, I held my first Solo Exhibition at the Tiverton Museum in April 2009. This was followed by a second in 2010 and three solo shows in 2011. 2012 was a blast with 18 shows, 5 of which were solo exhibitions including my Scilly sketchbook on permanent display in New York. I won’t ramble on, just see Latest News for the current year.

The West Country is full of beautiful landscapes,  seascapes and gardens of the National Trust all of which offer much inspiration. Further afield, scenes from the Lake District, Venice and the Greek Islands have been added to my portfolio.
Many of my commissions have come through my website, through my solo exhibitions and word of mouth. Prices for originals generally start from £220 for a 30x40cm oil painting. Do you want your favourite view hanging on your wall reliving that special memory of time and place?
Any thoughts … email me and let’s set up a dialogue.
